The end of the jubilee ....

As of January 1 next year, the Cabinet is lowering the jubilee allowance to 27,231 euros. According to the minister, the most logical choice, since it is equal to the one-time increased gift exemption between parents and children.

The so-called jubilee gift allows parents to give a one-time maximum of 106,671 euros tax-free to their children between the ages of 18 and 40 to purchase a new home. This gift exemption was introduced in 2017 with the expectation that young people would use the money for debt repayment. In practice, it turned out that they used it to buy a more expensive home.

Abolition in 2024
In the coalition agreement was already the intention to eliminate the gift exemption for owner-occupied homes. This turned out not to be possible as of January 1, 2023. The government now wants to introduce this on January 1, 2024. According to the minister, it is "wise to take a first substantial step already in 2023. As of January 1, 2023, the exemption will be reduced to 27,231 euros.
